Coming off their debut release "Ruins", BODY VOID returned to Earhammer Studios and has submitted almost an hour of painful sludge and wretched doom. With 2018's "I Live Inside A Burning House", this San Francisco sludge/crust outfit sought to create a darker and more substantial release, expanding on their sound but still holding true to the aural assault fans have come to expect.

Under the watchful ear of audio engineer Greg Wilkinson, BODY VOID continues in the style of label mates Primitive Man and Keeper, as well as genre-defining bands like Khanate, while staying grounded in the same harsh sludge sonic palette as "Ruins".

"I Live Inside A Burning House" is frightening and caustic, from the cinematic opener “Haunted” to the cacophonous nightmare of “Phantom Limb” and the tortuous drone of “Given.” Lyrically, the album seeks to explore queer identity, mental illness, and how those factors impact the push-pull relationship between material and immaterial existence.

"I Live Inside A Burning House" is co-released with Dry Cough Records and Seeing Red Records on vinyl, cassette, and compact disc formats.

Sacramento-based doom band CHRCH has joined the Neurot Recordings family for the release of their brand new full-length, "Light Will Consume Us All".

Standing at a crossroads of light and dark, CHRCH create epic, lengthy songs, with a massive low end, and a supernatural vocal presence, in a perfect blend of height and depth. CHRCH has been hard at work crafting their particular sound since 2013. There is no image or gimmick to uphold, only the humble glorification of their fundamental musical elements.

This purity and honesty comes across in a striking manner on the band’s debut "Unanswered Hymns" (Battleground Records, 2015), a sprawling roller coaster of an album. Long-form songs build and dismantle as the band reaches sonic heights and beautiful plateaus. Severe, sometimes unrelenting, guttural vocals contrast with melodic singing, just as massive guitar fuzz gives way to cleaner parts. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Patrick Hills at Earthtone Studios in Rocklin, California, it exudes a warm, organic tone that draws the listener in with a sound influenced by traditional doom, psych rock, drone, and ambience.

CHRCH teamed up with Fister to release a split 12-inch via Battleground Records / Crown And Throne LTD, earlier this year. Their track, “Temples,” displays the increasing subtlety and intensity of CHRCH's songwriting. Intricate melodies and composition build upon the band's thunderous drums, strong vocals, and gargantuan riffs.

The band's second full length, "Light Will Consume Us All", carries with it the same quality of songwriting that caught the attention of fans worldwide on their debut. Building upon this unyielding foundation, "Light Will Consume Us All" also continues CHRCH's narrative, traversing life's epic journey of loss, reclamation and, ultimately, finding hope within the darkness.

KOWLOON WALLED CITY joined Neurot Recordings to release “Grievances“, their 3rd full-length album on October 10th

“Grievances”, the third album from KOWLOON WALLED CITY and its first for Neurot Recordings, finds the San Francisco band at its artistic peak, having moved even further away from its sludgy, post-hardcore origins and toward a sparser, sadder, yet still de-tuned heaviness. This shift began with 2012’s critically successful “Container Ships”, which Lambgoat described as “spacious” and “mildly hypnotic,” with a “Shellac-like use of dead time and instrumentation,” and The Obelisk called “cerebral in approach.” On Grievances, the band takes these elements to even greater extremes.

Evans, guitarist Jon Howell, bassist Ian Miller, and drummer Jeff Fagundes spent over two years working on the seven songs for “Grievances”. The intense editing process weeded out about two albums’ worth of songs. “Honestly, it wasn’t fun,” says Evans, “it was grueling. But I’m not really here to have fun.”

Howell’s unusual chord changes and discordant aesthetic channel Unwound and Slint. Miller’s gritty bass adds a suprising layer of depth and melody, while Fagundes’ drums resonate in what sounds like an impossibly large room. Evans’ shouted vocals are raw with frustration and disappointment, but without the typical veneer of macho aggression.

“We’re not interested in doing something that’s good enough — we want to do something that we believe is good,” said Miller. “With Scott’s concept and sonics and Jon’s playing and our rhythm section, we feel like should be able to do something interesting. But it’s hard work.”

The concept of work forms the thematic foundation of the entire record, from the cover art to the title and the lyrics. Whereas previous KOWLOON WALLED CITY releases were largely inspired by the band’s hometown of San Francisco, “‘Grievances’ focuses its attention on our complex relationships with work and the power our employment—and employers—have over us.”

Archival recordings from America's first doom band to be released February 23rd

Relapse Records is proud to announce the official re-release of BEDEMON's archival recordings, "Child of Darkness". Widely considered America's first doom metal band, BEDEMON formed in 1973 and consisted of original Pentagram members Randy Palmer, Geof O'Keefe, and Bobby Liebling. The group was an offshoot of Pentagram, with a darker and doomier tone. BEDEMON recorded various sessions spanning from 1973-1979 which are being made available once again after being out-of-print for over 10 years.

Child of Darkness will be made available on CD/LP on February 20 in GAS, Benelux and Finland, February 23 in the rest of Europe and UK and on February 24 in the US. BONGZILLA became a classic band of the Sludge/Doom/Stoner scene in the beginning of the 2000s with albums like "Stash" or "Gateway". In 2005 their last studio album "Amerijuanican" recorded with "Dixie" Dave Collins bass-player of WEEDEATER as a member came out. Later the band got into a hiatus till now, during this period some members have been active in other musical projects like AQUILONIAN, with Mike (vocalist/guitarrist) and Magma (Drummer). BONGZILLA returns to the stages only for now with the line-up of the "Gateaway" album. There will be gigs in the U.S. and a bunch of selected gigs in Europe and Russia, including performances at festivals like Temples in Bristol, U.K., and Heavy Days in Doomtown in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Schwer, schwerer, am schwersten! - Der Superlativ reicht kaum aus, um das gestrige Konzert im ehrwürdigen UT Connewitz in Worte zu fassen, dessen Auftakt die Leipziger Band DeZAFRA RIDGE ablieferte. Jene heizten das Union Theater auf ordentliche Betriebstemperatur und stimmten das Publikum auf die hochkarätigen Genre-Kollegen ein.

Mit ihrer hochgelobten Demo überzeugten PALLBEARER vor gerade einmal vier Jahren nicht nur den Doom-Underground, sondern auch Profound Lore Records, auf welchem sie 2012 das Debüt "Sorrow And Extiction" veröffentlichten. Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene, notorious for its reserve of vintage equipment, alongside longtime collaborator/iconic sound-sage Billy Barnett, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering, Clearing The Path To Ascend is undoubtedly the crowning achievement for a band whose journey now nears two decades of creating music as commanding as it is cathartic.

  As is the Yob way, the tracks here don’t simply offer a vacuous glimpse into the already riff-soaked doom genre. These songs demand the tandem attention of mind, body, and soul – etching a mark across a sound that finds Yob as formidable and unequaled as they’ve ever been. The path to ascend is clearly an arduous one, fraught with the peril of mediocrity. Thankfully, Yob pummels that path, climbing upward into a realm that sets the band in a heavy metal place that has been and will always remain wholly their own.

AMENRA collaborate with Willy Vanderperre for humbling video | UK shows, European tour dates and new releases announced

What happens when AMENRA, extreme music's most guarded and secretive unit, relinquish control? Top fashion photographer Willy Vanderperre and director of photography Nicolas Karakatsanisare are behind the reins of a video which features the band stripped of all that we know of them, and you can watch it first at Nowness...

Amenra: A Mon Âme 

Vanderperre has worked with a startling array of individuals, from Kate Moss to Kanye West, but his encounter with AMENRA sees both parties break formation to form a hesitant, powerful and revealing union. The video, set to À Mon Âme from their most recent album, MASS V, may not be what you have come to expect from the cult crafters of discordance - but what are AMENRA if not masters of defying expectation?

Says CHVE of the collaboration; "It is not at all like the sort of visuals we usually present, it is more a case study, or a visual interpretation of the band, a little piece of concept art, if you will. The idea they [Willy Vanderperre and director of photography Nicolas Karakatsanisare] had was stripping us of everything we had – ‘what if we took it all away from them?’, ‘what if we took them from their comfort zone?’. No shadows or darkness to hide in, dark imagery, props or metaphors or symbols to use."...

He continues..."Compare it to what we sometimes or mostly do with our music - stick to the mere necessary, take a minimalistic approach of a whole. What do we really need? To create a certain 'feeling' of emotion. For us, it was an extremely interesting cooperation. We normally keep our guard extremely high, never give something out of our hands, to keep it as close to our skin as humanly possible - that's exactly what they did as well, literally...It was awkward, uneasy, and very confronting for us to see, yet one of the most interesting things we did lately, and an honour for us to be working with such talented and inspiring people. ‘Under a watchtower of punishing light.’”

AMENRA are also gearing up for two split releases on Consouling Sound, due for release in summer of this year. Each of the split albums will present an incarnation of AMENRA, together with a sometimes surprising, but always compelling counterpart band - for the split 10" album with Eleanora, AMENRA is offering À mon Âme (live) and for the split 10" album with Treha Sektori, AMENRA decided to re-interpret À mon Âme and create an atmospheric ambient piece called Trahn.

The Eleanora track introduces an eager young Belgian sludge/doom outfit with a truly captivating sound that'll surely keep the audience yearning for their debut EP to be released later on in 2014.  Treha Sektori's French master soundscaper Dehn Sora surely is no stranger to fan of dark ambient music and drones.

Stoneburner sind eine der Hauptpfeiler der Underground Szene in ihrer Heimat Portland, Oregon. Auch wenn die Band erst im Jahre 2008 gegründet wurde, existieren weitaus längere musikalische Verflechtungen: So spielten Drummer Jesse McKinnon (ex-Buried Blood) und Gitarrist Jason Depew (Buried At Sea) bereits gemeinsam in zahlreichen Projekten.

Bereits mit ihrem Debütalbum fand die Band ihre unbequeme Nische zwischen Bands wie Neurosis, YOB, Sleep, EYEHATEGOD, Buzzov-en, Saint Vitus, Weedeater, Watain und Anderen, mit denen sie sich auch oftmals die Bühnen teilten.

Auf "Life Drawing" gehen sie den gewählten Weg weiter und treiben ihre eigene Vision von Musik, welche ihre gemeinsame Frustration von der Welt vertont, weiter voran. So sagt Gitarrist Eli Boland über die Arbeit mit Stoneburner: "It takes care of the thing inside us that would otherwise lead to serial murder. It cleanses my soul, eases my demons, and fills my heart in a way that keeps me high for a good long while.”

STONEBURNER is one of the mainstays of the Portland, Oregon underground scene. Formed in early 2008, the bands’ familial roots reach back twenty years. Drummer Jesse McKinnon (ex-Buried Blood) and guitarist Jason Depew (Buried At Sea) have rocked together in many incarnations.

Their other bands had similarly earth-choked names (a stone burner is a subterranean weapon from the novel Dune), but it gets even more incestuous — Jesse went to school with bassist Damon (Heathen Shrine) Kelly’s step-mother. Years later, Jesse’s father would be Damon’s high school government teacher. Today most of the band shares a house and a musical outlet for their worldly frustrations.

To describe Stoneburner’s music one need only look to the list of bands with whom they’ve shared the stage: Yob, Sleep, EYEHATEGOD, Neurosis, Buzzov-en, Weedeater, Saint Vitus, Watain, Tragedy, Noothgrush, Graves At Sea, Lord Dying, Drop Dead, Whitehorse, Wind Hand, Bastard Noise and etc. It’s all about domination through amplification and soul-cleansing
catharsis. Stoneburner does not put on airs for anyone. The shows are not "rituals". According to guitarist Eli Boland, playing in Stoneburner “…takes care of the thing inside us that would otherwise lead to serial murder. Life Drawing is the band’s second album and third overall release following closely in the tradition of 2012’s Sickness Will Pass (Seventh Rule). All players are the same and Damon has now had ample time to gel with the band. Once again the tracking was done at Haywire under producer Fester “the fifth Burner’s” watchful ear and red-rimmed eyes. The same mastering engineer and cover artist were similarly reemployed.

What’s new is the Neurot logo on the spine and a handful of close friends on guest vocals including: Benjamin Caragol (Burials/Hang the Old Year), Joshua Greene (Bastard Feast, Ephemeros), and Krysta Martinez (Transient/Landmine Marathon). Two difficult years have passed. A basement provided the outlet. The band considers it therapy. The fruition is Life Drawing.

Keineswegs! - SCOTT KELLYs Solo-Material streift so sanft und warm wie der nordamerikanische Prärie-Wind um die Klang verwöhnten Ohren, erzählt von der Weite, vom Alleinsein, vom Daseinsschmerz, zieht hinab in seelische Abgründe und lässt unmittelbar Teil haben an den Dingen, die den weit gereisten Musiker beschäftigen, bewegen und zermartern, vom eigenen Leben gezeichnet und von TOWNS VAN ZANDT inspiriert. Auch live überzeugte Scott gemeinsam mit Noah Landis und Greg Dale, dass amerikanischer Country und Blues kaum doomiger dargeboten werden können, und vielleicht gerade aufgrund der live hinzugefügten neuro(s)ischen Note von Landis umso mehr überzeugen, ohne jemals die Hauptband zu sein oder mimen zu wollen. Großartiges Gefühlskino, das so nur im bestuhlten UT Connewitz genossen werden kann. Earlier this year, Hessian released their debut album Manégarmr through Southern Lord which was very well received indeed. The combined musical backgrounds of guitarist Levy Seynaeve (Amenra), drummer Tim Bryon (The Black Heart Rebellion), vocalist Bram Coussement and bass player Kenneth Vanhoutte fell effortlessly into place, pushing a sound that was at once pummeling, devouring and empowering. Named after the wolf which, in Norwegian mythology, devours the sun every night, Manégarmr focuses both sonically and lyrically on the endless cycles of destruction that are imminent to this life and the world in which we live. From the soaring take-off of “Ascension,” via the treacherous calm of central pieces “Vāmācāra” and “Father of Greed,” to the merciless onslaught that is “Mother of Time.” With towering guitars, frenzied drum patterns and savage vocals that sound like the howl of the lone wolf, Manègarmr is a furious blizzard of blackened metal, violently crashing into a maelstrom of ultra-metallic dark hardcore. CORRECTIONS HOUSE is the collective compulsions of Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Sanford Parker (Minsk) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury. A mysterious cooperative of lost souls, forged unwittingly by the impetous forces of nature and altered states of consciousness, Corrections House is without control of their destiny. Boundless in their genre voyage, Corrections House conjure an impossible-to-pinpoint kaleidoscopic synthesis of mechanical decomposition, atmospheric abnormalities, and poetic putrefaction. They embrace the unkind, the diseased, the forgotten, the morose, their lush anti-soundscrapes and shadowy verses – at once beautifully hideous, graceful and terrifying – a manifestation of societal ruin and psychological decay. The transformation of time and space; death begetting life and veils being torn; an imposing dissonance too penetrating to dismiss… Corrections House systematically create and destroy through audio disease and transcendent musical deconstruction. All things in all ways. There is nothing else.

Today the musical miscreants at Pitchfork offer up the first sampling of Last City Zero, the forthcoming debut full-length from recent Neurot Recordings signees, CORRECTIONS HOUSE. A shadowy legion of lost souls, fused together by the impulsive forces of nature and altered states of consciousness, CORRECTIONS HOUSE is the maniacal creation of Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Sanford Parker (Minsk) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury. Produced by Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu’s Lair, Last City Zero offers up eight psychologically alarming hymns that span well beyond the traditional confines of sound. At once cold, mechanical, prosaic and pungent, Last City Zero is a full body experience rather than a casual listen.      
In celebration of its impending release, Pitchfork is currently streaming opening track “Serve or Survive,” which they call “every bit as strange and unwieldy as its membership might suggest. ‘Serve or Survive’ opens as an oblong bed of noise, the circuits of producer Sanford Parker, struggle to catch their breath while Bruce Lamont broadcasts whale song by saxophone. Above the gray drift, Neurosis’ Scott Kelly intones his familiar doom.”

Comments Fairbury of the tune: “How can the choice be any clearer? The less Serving you do, the more chance you have to Survive. Serving is rarely a positive experience and Surviving, although a victory of sorts, is truly the most basic form of existence. Either way, you’re fucked.”
