ALTAR OF BETELGEUZE
"Among the Ruins"
Transcending Obscurity Records
Moon, Mars, Saturn or Sun? That's old hat! From now on, we bow down at the ALTAR OF BETELGEUZE – as modern space and doom travellers – praying to the gods of Orion constellation and to those that brought the slow and heavy guitar riffs. These Finns inhaled Black Sabbath, Black Label Society and Nile, cooked all ingredients well, and put the cart before the horse, playing slowly pushing and grinding doom metal served with lowest guitar and guttural vocal sound that is abyssal like old school death metal, stomach stirring and brain squeezing. Delivers catchy melodies as well as leads and clean vocals in the vein of Zakk Wylde to built a majestic overall atmosphere known from top doom bands and epic story tellers Pallbearer and The Wounded Kings. If a song on "Among the Ruins" could be called a masterpiece amongst quality tracks, it would be "Sledge Of Stones", which is filled to the brim with all virtues and trademarks doom metal is loved for: crawling speed, crushingly heavy riffage, haunting melody, heartbreaking voice and loads of grief, despair and solitude. Thy doom come, your riff be done on earth and in universe! (SM)
