Formed in Gothenburg in 2013, MONOLORD quickly burst onto the scene releasing three critically-acclaimed full-lengths in a four-year span (Empress Rising, Vænir and Rust) on RidingEasy Records all while touring relentlessly around the globe. MONOLORD is a rare breed: A band both encompassing and transcending genre; a vortex of heavy rock density that consumes all others. The band’s enveloping, syrupy sludge is a state of mind, with guitarist/vocalist Thomas Jäger, drummer Esben Willemsand bassist Mika Häkki create a massive, dynamic sound with ultra-low frequencies serving as its fourth member. Richmond, Virginia's psychedelic heavyweights WINDHAND unveil "Grey Garden", the video and lead single off their forthcoming album "Eternal Return".
"Eternal Return" is a complete life-to-death journey. As unplanned things go, it's an observation of as well as a reflection on life's ups and downs, joys and sorrows, beginnings and ends. Between the band's 2015 highly acclaimed "Grief's Infernal Flower" and 2018's "Eternal Return" WINDHAND welcomed new life, survived lineup changes and mourned unexpected death. The songs and song ordering are the direct result of those experiences. Where "Halcyon" is assured in its opening, the closing track "Feather" is its funeral march.
WINDHAND wrote "Eternal Return" all throughout the winter. Out of the sessions, "Halcyon", "Grey Garden", "Red Cloud" and the monstrous "Eyeshine" emerged as the heaviest tracks, while "Pilgrim's Rest", "Diablerie" and "Feather" embodied the more reflective side of WINDHAND. The juxtaposition of heavy, psychedelic and pensive is less like Black Sabbath or Sleep and more like Soundgarden or Veruca Salt. But the name-drops aren't absolute so much as signals of WINDHAND's ability to stretch beyond genre confines. "Eternal Return" represents a new era for the group, a chrysalis moment that takes them to new and unforeseen heights. Boosted by Garrett Morris' consistently cool riffs-forged at the crossroads of Iommi's otherworldly import and Kurt Cobain's spontaneous precocity-powered by Ryan Wolfe and Parker Chandler's groove-laden rhythms, and propelled by Dorthia Cottrell's smoky yet wistful vocals, WINDHAND's new album is a two-step jump for Richmond's finest purveyors of the psycho-actively heavy. Adorned by Arik Roper's (Sleep, High on Fire) impressive cover art, Eternal Return not only looks the part of WINDHAND's artistic growth but sounds the part.
WINDHAND brought Jack Endino back into the fold. Together, they spent two weeks recording at Soundhouse Recording in Seattle. Described as "smooth" and "intense", the sessions with the famed producer were just what WINDHAND wanted. Endino also understood the group's artistic progression, chiefly the admiration of and blending in late 80s/early 90s grunge. Out of it all, WINDHAND continued to refactor and refine their vision of heavy. A new era of psychedelic heaviness is upon us with WINDHAND's genre-blurring "Eternal Return". Sweet, fuzzed-out oblivion has never been closer.
"Eternal Return" sees its release October 5th on Relapse Records. WINDHAND venture on a full North American tour this fall with Satan's Satyrs.

BLACK TUSK suffered a heavy loss last year with the tragic passing of their brother and bandmate Athon. The trio had recently completed their fifth full-length record with producer Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust at Audiosiege Studios in Portland, OR this past September. The album, featuring the band's final recordings with Athon, will see it's release next year via Relapse Records.

Archival recordings from America's first doom band to be released February 23rd
Relapse Records is proud to announce the official re-release of BEDEMON's archival recordings, "Child of Darkness". Widely considered America's first doom metal band, BEDEMON formed in 1973 and consisted of original Pentagram members Randy Palmer, Geof O'Keefe, and Bobby Liebling. The group was an offshoot of Pentagram, with a darker and doomier tone. BEDEMON recorded various sessions spanning from 1973-1979 which are being made available once again after being out-of-print for over 10 years.
Child of Darkness will be made available on CD/LP on February 20 in GAS, Benelux and Finland, February 23 in the rest of Europe and UK and on February 24 in the US. BONGZILLA became a classic band of the Sludge/Doom/Stoner scene in the beginning of the 2000s with albums like "Stash" or "Gateway". In 2005 their last studio album "Amerijuanican" recorded with "Dixie" Dave Collins bass-player of WEEDEATER as a member came out. Later the band got into a hiatus till now, during this period some members have been active in other musical projects like AQUILONIAN, with Mike (vocalist/guitarrist) and Magma (Drummer). BONGZILLA returns to the stages only for now with the line-up of the "Gateaway" album. There will be gigs in the U.S. and a bunch of selected gigs in Europe and Russia, including performances at festivals like Temples in Bristol, U.K., and Heavy Days in Doomtown in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Bereits im Sommer 2009 geschrieben, in den darauf folgenden Jahren überarbeitet und perfektioniert, wurde "The Cavern" im vergangenen Jahr während der Pausen zwischen den Touren mit BARONESS, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, ULCERATE u.a. gemeinsam mit Produzent Mikey Allred in den Dark Art Studios in Madison unter den selben Bedingungen wie die "Sky Burial" LP aufgenommen.
Die Grindcore-Band PIG DESTROYER kündigten kürzlich ihre Pläne zur Veröffentlichung einer Zwei-Song-Doom-EP an, die den Titel "Mass & Volume" trägt. Bisher und für einen begrenzten Zeitraum gab es das Release nur als digitale Veröffentlichung, dessen Einnahmen direkt an die Familie des Relapse Records-Angestellten Pat Egan gingen, der letztes Jahr auf tragische Weise ums Leben kam. Jetzt wird das Kult-Release zum allerersten Mal auch in physischen Formaten erhältlich sein. Heute präsentieren PIG DESTROYER den kompletten Stream der monolithischen EP.
WOLVSERPENT, die Doom-Schamanen aus Boise, kündigen eine dreiwöchige Headliner-Tour durch Europa an, auf welcher sie ihr zweites Vollzeitalbum "Perigaea Antahrakana" live präsentieren. Boise doom shamans WOLVSERPENT have announced a three week headlining European tour in support of their second full-length album Perigaea Antahkarana. The tour kicks off on September 25th in the Czech Republic and ends October 18th in Moscow, Russia. A complete listing of dates is included below.

Richmond psychedoom practitioners WINDHAND have revealed a three week run of headlining North American fall tour dates. The shows kick off on August 24th in Richmond, VA and include support from psychedelic Nashville outift, All Them Witches plus Jex Thoth and Ilsa on select dates. The band has also been hand picked as openers for the legendary SLEEP’s sold out show in Philadelphia on August 26th. 2014 has already seen the band traverse North America and Europe with Relapse label-mates Inter Arma and Indian including appearances at SXSW, Maryland Deathfest, and Roadburn. Born from within the smoldering remains of Unearthly Trance in 2011, UT members, bassist Jay Newman, drummer Darren Verni and vocalist Ryan Lipynsky (The Howling Wind) recruited guitarist Tim Bagshaw (ex-Ramesses, ex-Electric Wizard) to complete the SERPENTINE PATH lineup. Their crushing, self-titled debut full-length was referred to as “thudding death-doom that will have genre enthusiasts rolling their stoned skulls in graveyard genuflection” by Revolver, and “a contender for doom album of the year” by Decibel.
Now officially augmented by new second guitarist Stephen Flam, the mastermind behind NYC doom/death legends Winter, SERPENTINE PATH brings forth their most demoralizing and anguish-filled slow-motion chaos yet, with the newly-completed Emanations. As with their first album, Emanations was recorded by the band’s Jay Newman, after which it was honed to devastating perfection at Audiosiege, the album capturing forty-five minutes of true sludge punishment with seven brand new songs from this true underground all-star team. Sure, the pedigree is undeniable, but regardless of their “members of” status, SERPENTINE PATH is one of the most scathing sludge acts on the planet.
Unser Resümee zum DOOM OVER LEIPZIG 2014 lautet ganz eindeutig: Top Bands an einmaligem Veranstaltungsort und tolle Stimmung! Wenn man die Entwicklung des Leipziger Festivals betrachtet, hat es sich zu einem Doom-Event der Superlative gemausert. Dieses Jahr warteten die Veranstalter mit den Genre-Größen ESOTERIC, WINDHAND, INDIAN, CONAN und KONGH auf, die allesamt und dem guten Klang im ehrwürdigen UT Connewitz sei Dank, ein Doom-Brett nach dem anderen ablieferten.

Auch den Sludge-Jüngern wurde die volle Eyehategod-Kante mit GRAVES AT SEA und SOURVEIN geboten, in deren Folge nicht wenige Gäste entzückt grinsend herumliefen. Maximal melancholisch gruben sich die akustischen Stücke von 40 WATT SUN in die Herzschmerz- und Seelenleid-geprüften Publikumsherzen. Kein geringerer als Ex-WARNINGs Patrick Walker überzeugte mit seinen zutiefst berührenden Stücken. Auch wenn ich an der einen oder anderen Stelle die verzerrte Gitarre vermisste, gab es das ersehnte "Footprints" von WARNING noch als Sahnehäubchen oben drauf.

THE BODY sorgte für die passende Drone-Note und CIRCLE sowohl für das optische und tonale Überraschungsmoment im Festival-Billing. Man stelle sich den Frontmann mit Addidas-Trainingsanzug, Nieten-Armgürtel und gestochenen Heavy-Vocals vor, dazu die entsprechenden Gitarrenriffs, Hamond-Orgel-Attacken en masse und eine mit homoerotischen Einlagen durchzogene Performance, dass kein Auge trocken blieb. Musikalisch tanzten CIRCLE klar aus der Festival-Reihe, waren aber auch nach dem äußerst unterhaltsamen Auftritt in aller Munde.

OLD MAN GLOOM begeisterte alle Fans von Riffs wie GODFLESH sie seiner Zeit spielten. Nur bei INTER ARMA fiel es mir schwer, Gefallen an der zuweilen anstrengend Schwarzmetall-lastigen Musik zu finden. Das war aber bei der Menge an hochkarätigen Bands an allen drei Tagen zu verschmerzen und ich maximal zerdoomt.

Following a two-year release stretch since their bold self-titled debut LP was issued, Relapse Records this week unveils the release details on the highly-anticipated second LP from New York City-based morbid sludge metal executioners, SERPENTINE PATH, who will bring forth their most demoralizing and anguish-filled slow-motion chaos yet, with the newly-completed Emanations.
As with their first album, Emanations was recorded by the band's Jay Newman, after which it was honed to devastating perfection at Audiosiege, the album capturing forty-five minutes of true sludge punishment with seven brand new songs from this true underground all-star team. Sure, the pedigree is undeniable, but regardless of their "members of" status, SERPENTINE PATH is one of the most scathing sludge acts on the planet.

Scion Audio Visual presents RED FANG's Spring tour, "Situation: AWESOME!," the Portland band's first Stateside outing in 2014. The one-month trek kicks off May 16 at Slim's in San Francisco and includes a stop at Scion AV's Rock Fest in Pomona on May 17. RED FANG will also be joined by Big Business and American Sharks.
As part of the Scion AV-sponsored tour, RED FANG will release a new single titled "The Meadows" in early May, with a limited edition 7-inch available along the tour. A video for the song will arrive during the Situation: AWESOME! tour.
PRIMITIVE MAN have confirmed that they will be heading to Europe this summer. The blackened sludge trio will hit the road with WAKE in mainland Europe before continuing on to the UK to tour with Opium Lord. The band will also play a handful of dates with fellow Relapse label mates, WEEKEND NACHOS. The band commented: "We are looking forward to spreading our seed far and wide across the pond. See you there."
PRIMITIVE MAN have spent much of this month on the road in the US, including shows at SXSW, in support of their latest album Scorn. Recorded by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Cobalt, etc.), Scorn was initially unleashed early last year via a collaboration between Throatruiner and Mordgrimm Records before being reissued by Relapse in August. The album was applauded for being a, "totally malignant sounding record ... that will consume you whole if you're not careful," by Cvlt Nation, "the best worst thing that has ever happened to you," by Metal Hammer, and "one of the most brutal, unsettling and uncompromising albums you will hear all year," by About.com.
Tour mates WAKE hail from Alberta, Canada and will bring their grind and death roadshow to Europe in support of their split 7" with Theories released via Handshake, Inc. and 7Degrees records. A film version of their second album False is also due in the summer. Opium Lord are a heavy doom band hailing from the Midlands in the UK who have just completed work on their debut full length album .

Denver's demonic doom deviants PRIMITIVE MAN are making their way down to SXSW the only way they know how; leveling every city in their way with their suffocating and crushing brand of sonic destruction. See a full list of dates below.
Once at SXSW, they'll be joining labelmates Windhand, Christian Mistress, Nothing, and more at the Relapse Official Showcase and will accompany fellow doom nihilists Indian at Pitchfork's Show No Mercy showcase.
Portland, OR's hard rock heroes RED FANG have revealed a "playthrough" video for the song "No Hope" off their latest album Whales and Leeches. In keeping up with with the rising popularity of instructional videos, the members got together to show their fans and critics how to play the track on a variety of non-traditional instruments. Additionally, the band is gearing up to kick off the second leg of their headlining European tour with label-mates Lord Dying and The Shrine. A full list of dates including many recently upgraded, bigger venues is included below along with a string of recently announced European summer festival appearances. The band will also be playing a special hometown show at the Wonder Ballroom on March 8th in Portland, OR before embarking on the month long trek.
