Holy moly, or better HOLY SERPENT! These Melbourne based Australians make it pretty easy when it comes to choose the perfect album whilst sitting on the balcony in the late summer heat, which means 35 degree celsius here in Germany at the very moment. "Temples" offers it all: most doomy and fuzzed-out guitar riffs in the vein of Saint Vitus at most relaxant clock speed best compared to Acid King's way of rolling but more varied, slower here, accelerating there. I mean, "Temples" has been playing for a week now – every day, whole afternoon and evening in permanent circle. Even the echoing vocals interweave perfectly with the consistent compositions spiced with fantastic hooks, leads and catchy melody lines that crawl into my ears and flatter my musical brain area just right now like uncounted times before. It still does not bore. I don't feel the need to listen to anything else at the moment as "Temples" is a perfect doom metal album serving tension – from my doom head's point of view –, switches emotions on that I usually feel when listening to bands like the mentioned above, also Pallbearer, The Wounded Kings and similar. HOLY SERPENT have literally built "Temples" with their new album, right up into the heaven of doom metal! (SM)
