Gestern Abend spalteten sich die Leipziger wahrscheinlich in zwei Lager - in die sonntäglichen Tatort-Schauer und die Heavy Rock-Fans, welche sich für das Alternativprogramm im kleinen Saal des Hellraiser entschieden hatten. Definitiv eine gute Entscheidung, weil nach dem kurzweiligen australischen Support, JACKSON FIREBIRD, die 70s-Riff-Keule dermaßen durchgezogen wurde, dass es keinem Anwesenden auch nur ansatzweise gelang, den Nacken vollkommen still zu halten. Eher das Gegenteil war der Fall, weil das Gaspedal von den Rise Above-Zöglingen HORISONT, die ihr neues Album "Time Warriors" im Gepäck hatten, und SCORPION CHILD (Nuclear Blast) von der ersten Sekunde an derartig bis unter die Motorhaube durchgetreten wurde, dass der brennenden Luft nur mittels gediegener Haarventilation Einhalt geboten werden konnte. Dazu die passende Optik der absolut professionell aufspielenden Musiker inklusive Oberlippenbart, Koteletten und Schlaghosen und perfekt war der Retro-Streifen. Es sollte noch erwähnt werden, dass der Sound absolute Oberklasse war. Wer beide bisher nur auf einem Festival oder überhaupt noch nicht genießen durfte, dem sei ans Herz gelegt, einen Club-Gig dieser großartigen Gruppen zu besuchen. Die Chance gibt es auf der gerade erst begonnenen Europatour noch ausreichend. Hier die ausstehenden Dates, also nicht lange überlegen, hingehen und ABROCKEN!

OLD MAN GLOOM: Debut European Tour beginns tomorrow! | Allererste Europatour startet morgen!



This week, Old Man Gloom will be flying over for their first ever European tour. Their only UK show is at Scala in London on Thurs April 3rd, so make sure you get down to catch an Ultra-Group™ (the term super-group not being quite adequate to describe their terrible supremacy) in action.

The ethnically diverse and divinely gifted, Old Man Gloom are made up of: Nate Newton (Converge, Doomriders), Aaron Turner (ISIS, Mamiffer, etc), Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Zozobra, etc), and Santos Montaño (Zozobra, etc). Their most recent full length NO was released on Hydra Head Records in 2012, Old Man Gloom is currently at work on a new album, their first for the Canadian monolith Profound Lore. It will be released in late 2014.

THE SKULL Featuring Former TROUBLE Members Announce Release Date for Two New Singles



There’s no “trouble” for THE SKULL - the heavy doom-rock band featuring original TROUBLE members vocalist Eric Wagner and drummer Jeff “Oly” Olson, longtime former TROUBLE bassist Ron Holzner and newly recruited former TROUBLE bassist Chuck Robinson, now on dueling guitar, alongside SACRED DAWN guitarist Lothar Keller - as they will unleash their two new singles recorded with acclaimed producer/engineer Billy Anderson (MELVINS, NEUROSIS) worldwide on Tuesday, April 8th via Tee Pee Records.

The "limited edition" white vinyl replica CD featuring “Sometime Yesterday Mourning” (side A) and “The Last Judgment” (side B) is now available for pre-order at Tee Pee Records.

Downloads of the singles will be available at your favorite digital retailer on April 8th. 

In other news, THE SKULL’s worldwide debut of “Sometime Yesterday Mourning” and “The Last Judgment” will premiere exclusively on drummer and keyboardist Jeff “Oly” Olson’s podcast HEADY METAL WITH JEFF OLSON via InThePitRadio.com on Friday, April 4th from 7PM-9PM EST. Olson will be live on-air and field reporting from THE SKULL’s listening party that evening at the Ragnarokk Metal Apocalypse Fest in Chicago located at Reggies Rock Club where fans can purchase the CD. Olson, along with vocalist Eric Wagner, bassist Ron Holzner, guitarist Chuck Robinson, and guitarist Lothar Keller, will all be available to personally sign the limited edition white vinyl replica CD.

“Sometime Yesterday Mourning” is a doomy metal song written by Keller, Holzner and Wagner that showcases the genre pioneers' distinct style while “The Last Judgment” is a "revisiting" of the classic TROUBLE song of the same name that originally appeared on the classic 1983 "Metal Massacre IV" compilation album.

"I think “Sometime Yesterday Mourning” is the perfect song for THE SKULL to lead with and there's a reason why it was the first song we completed as a band," commented Wagner. "It's about coming to a point in life when it's just time for a new beginning, a fresh start if you will, and finally coming to terms with the past.

"Being that it is the 30th anniversary of the release of the song “The Last Judgment” — the first song we ever released — we thought it fit perfectly for the B-side and considering what “Sometime Yesterday Mourning” is about, it made sense to me. You have to go through your past to get to your future."

Drummer and keyboardist Jeff “Oly” Olson on Chuck Robinson’s addition to the band: 

“We are excited and honored that Chuck Robinson has accepted our invitation to join the band. He is the perfect fit for THE SKULL.” 

“I’ve always enjoyed rehearsing with Chuck as he is disciplined with his art. He’ll surely bring a bonus to the band with his experience as a former TROUBLE member and as a seasoned musician who utilizes both his talented song writing ability and his exceptional recording skills. We are looking forward to tour with our brother again.”

Olson added, “Chuck is more then a bass player. He grew up playing guitar with his father, also a very talented guitarist. Eric, Ron, Lothar, and myself know that Chuck is more than capable for the job. He’ll bring chops with a heavy groove to our debut album, as well as bring his charisma to the stage.”

The Wings of Metal Festival will be a headlining performance consisting of two sets. The first set will be a performance of TROUBLE’s 1984 debut album “Psalm 9” in it’s entirety. The second set will include a performance of their newly recorded songs as well as TROUBLE classics.

THE SKULL will follow the release of the new songs with its debut full length LP, tentatively slated for release this autumn.

DOOM SHALL RISE: Save The Chapel / DSR-Veranstaltungsort Chapel braucht Hilfe



"Die Chapel im Göppinger Stauferpark, Veranstaltungsort des letztmalig im April 2013 dort zelebrierten DOOM SHALL RISE-Festivals, muss vorerst die Kirchentüren schließen. Auflagen der Behörden untersagen weitere Veranstaltungen, bis kostspielige Änderungen vorgenommen wurden. Hierfür sucht das Team der Chapel nun Unterstützung, (Vampster.com) fragt mal bei Alexander, dem zweiten Vorsitzenden des Vereins "Fabrik für Kunst und Kultur E.V.", was los ist.

Klar sterben überall immer wieder Veranstaltungsorte, um jeden ist es schade, vor allem, wenn der/die Betreiber wirtschaftlich zugrunde gehen. Trifft es eine Lokation, die einem selbst ans Herz gewachsen ist, wird es natürlich auch etwas zum eigenen Drama. Nun also hat es die Chapel in Göppingen erwischt, unter anderem von 2004-2013 Veranstaltungsort des DOOM SHALL RISE-Festivals. Die Kombination aus dem ehemaligen US-Army Kirchengebäude und den sakralen Klängen des Dooms war einzigartig, die Chapel wurde zur Pilgerstätte der Doom-Szene.

Als die Nachricht zur aktuellen Situation der Chapel ihre Runde machte, waren Überraschung und Entsetzen groß. Gerade auch für die Doom-Gemeinde ist die Chapel ein fast heiliger Ort, und nun werdet ihr von Behördenforderungen ins Aus gezwungen, zumindest müssen die Türen für Veranstaltungen geschlossen bleiben ..."

Wir, die Doom Metal Front, sind tatsächlich entsetzt und empfehlen allen, die sich über die Belange des Doom Metal hinaus für den Erhalt von Veranstaltungsorten interessieren, die nicht nur massenkompatiblen Musikrichtungen ein Zuhause anbieten, das Interview auf Vampster.com mit dem Team der ehrwürdigen Chapel in Göppingen durchzulesen. Es scheint allgemein der Tenor zu sein, dass Stadträte quer durch Deutschland den kultur- und jugendfördernden Vereinen das (Über-)Leben aus fadenscheinigen Gründen so schwer wie nur möglich machen wollen. Angefangen mit dem KV in Nürnberg, dann die Rockstation in Halle/Saale - und nun ist die heilige Göppinger Chapel dran. Eine Frechheit! Subkultur adé!

AMENRA collaborate with Willy Vanderperre for humbling video | UK shows, European tour dates and new releases announced




What happens when AMENRA, extreme music's most guarded and secretive unit, relinquish control? Top fashion photographer Willy Vanderperre and director of photography Nicolas Karakatsanisare are behind the reins of a video which features the band stripped of all that we know of them, and you can watch it first at Nowness...


Vanderperre has worked with a startling array of individuals, from Kate Moss to Kanye West, but his encounter with AMENRA sees both parties break formation to form a hesitant, powerful and revealing union. The video, set to À Mon Âme from their most recent album, MASS V, may not be what you have come to expect from the cult crafters of discordance - but what are AMENRA if not masters of defying expectation?

Says CHVE of the collaboration; "It is not at all like the sort of visuals we usually present, it is more a case study, or a visual interpretation of the band, a little piece of concept art, if you will. The idea they [Willy Vanderperre and director of photography Nicolas Karakatsanisare] had was stripping us of everything we had – ‘what if we took it all away from them?’, ‘what if we took them from their comfort zone?’. No shadows or darkness to hide in, dark imagery, props or metaphors or symbols to use."...

He continues..."Compare it to what we sometimes or mostly do with our music - stick to the mere necessary, take a minimalistic approach of a whole. What do we really need? To create a certain 'feeling' of emotion. For us, it was an extremely interesting cooperation. We normally keep our guard extremely high, never give something out of our hands, to keep it as close to our skin as humanly possible - that's exactly what they did as well, literally...It was awkward, uneasy, and very confronting for us to see, yet one of the most interesting things we did lately, and an honour for us to be working with such talented and inspiring people. ‘Under a watchtower of punishing light.’”

AMENRA are also gearing up for two split releases on Consouling Sound, due for release in summer of this year. Each of the split albums will present an incarnation of AMENRA, together with a sometimes surprising, but always compelling counterpart band - for the split 10" album with Eleanora, AMENRA is offering À mon Âme (live) and for the split 10" album with Treha Sektori, AMENRA decided to re-interpret À mon Âme and create an atmospheric ambient piece called Trahn.

The Eleanora track introduces an eager young Belgian sludge/doom outfit with a truly captivating sound that'll surely keep the audience yearning for their debut EP to be released later on in 2014.  Treha Sektori's French master soundscaper Dehn Sora surely is no stranger to fan of dark ambient music and drones.

In other AMENRA release news, My Proud Mountain are gearing up to release LIVE II, their second live cd, and first live 2xLP - the recording is the live audio from their MASS V release show of last year, mixed and mastered by Billy Anderson.

PRIMITIVE MAN: Officially announce European tour! | Kündigen offiziell Europa Tour an!



PRIMITIVE MAN have confirmed that they will be heading to Europe this summer. The blackened sludge trio will hit the road with WAKE in mainland Europe before continuing on to the UK to tour with Opium Lord. The band will also play a handful of dates with fellow Relapse label mates, WEEKEND NACHOS. The band commented: "We are looking forward to spreading our seed far and wide across the pond. See you there."

PRIMITIVE MAN have spent much of this month on the road in the US, including shows at SXSW, in support of their latest album Scorn. Recorded by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Cobalt, etc.), Scorn was initially unleashed early last year via a collaboration between Throatruiner and Mordgrimm Records before being reissued by Relapse in August. The album was applauded for being a, "totally malignant sounding record ... that will consume you whole if you're not careful," by Cvlt Nation, "the best worst thing that has ever happened to you," by Metal Hammer, and "one of the most brutal, unsettling and uncompromising albums you will hear all year," by About.com.

Tour mates WAKE hail from Alberta, Canada and will bring their grind and death roadshow to Europe in support of their split 7" with Theories released via Handshake, Inc. and 7Degrees records. Opium Lord are a heavy doom band hailing from the Midlands in the UK who have just completed work on their debut full length album .

Bad Omen Records ist ein neues britisches Heavy-Rock-Label, das von einem alten Bekannten geführt wird. Will Palmer kennen viele von Euch noch als einen der Köpfe hinter Rise Above Records und natürlich von den famosen Angel Witch. Bei Bad Omen setzt Will ausschließlich auf Heavy Rock mit Old-School-Werten.

Gestartet ist der Label-Reigen voriges Jahr mit den famosen SATAN´S SATYRS, die jetzt bereits ihren Zweitling vorlegen. Die Kerle aus Virginia spielen Dungeon Rock, was jetzt keine auf Deibel komm raus coole neue Schublade sein soll, sondern den Sound der Band einfach verdammt gut trifft.
SATAN´S SATYRS sind Fans von kultigen alten Filmen (am besten natürlich auf VHS), Garagen-Gedröhn (musikalisch und auch fahrbare Untersätze betreffend) und natürlich Satan. Das Resultat versprüht Detroit-1965-Feeling mit Punk-Appeal.

Durch einen Haufen ultra-limitierter Singles und EPs hat man sich ein Die-hard-Following aufgebaut.
Auf dem Roadburn Festival durfte man 2013 sogar zweimal ran. Einmal auf Ladung von Electric Wizard auf der "Electric Acid Orgy" und dann noch mal mit einem speziellen Blue-Cheer-Set.
"Die Screaming" verbindet die Trash-Ästhetik der Band nun mit richtig coolen Hooks. Hört Euch allein die Hammond-Orgel an, die beste "Hammer Horror"-Creepiness verbreitet. Im Hexenkessel der Band landen die Stooges, Black Flag, Blue Öyster Cult, Budgie, Black Sabbath, Earth, Death SS und ganz alter Alice Cooper.

Elaborates drummer/vocalist Jesse McKinnon, “‘Some Can’ is the first song on the album and a pretty fair hint of what’s to come later. The song is about being completely aware of what you need to do in order to better your life and yourself, but sometimes that’s just not in the cards you’re dealt.
