3rd edition of HEAVY DAYS IN DOOMTOWN FESTIVAL announced for 2014

The HEAVY DAYS IN DOOMTOWN FESTIVAL will have a 3rd edition on the 1st to 4th of May 2014!! Just as heavy, still DIY, and with bands from all over the globe that you will be dying to see!
Below you will find some basic info on the fest, aswell as how to reach us for bookng, exhibition inquiries, and other questions!

- A warm-up show will take place on Thursday May 1st (Location to be announced later on). Friday 2nd – Sunday 4th May will be at Ungdomshuset, Dortheavej 61, 2450 Copenhagen NV. Bands and artists will be announced from December 1st and every day throughout all of December. Presale will start January 1st at 12pm. Tickets are limited – especially for the warm up show, so be sure to secure your ticket early on.

"Of Prophecy And Alchemy" serves colossal heavily distorted sound, simply WAR IRON!!!

Born from the ashes of Belfast Stoner/Sludge band The Naut it was always the intention of WAR IRON to play pulverizing heavy music. The line-up has two bass players and no guitarists. Each of the two instruments have their own individual tone and characteristics which come together to create one colossal heavily distorted sound. Add to the basses pounding drums and caustic vocals and you have WAR IRON.

Along the way WAR IRON have played with Eyehategod, Napalm Death, Procession, GBH, Wormrot, Conan, Black Magician and a raft of other metal/punk/crust/grind/doom bands. War Iron have played Ireland, Scotland and England to date. Festival appearances at Dublin Doom Days fest 2012 and Desertfest, London 2013 brought their unique brand of doom/sludge to wider audiences. Return trips to London, Scotland and a venture into mainland Europe are all pencilled in for 2014.

RUN AFTER TO: Obscure Italian Doom Metal band from the 80s unearthed

Shadow Kingdom Records has unearthed some completely obscure and virtually unknown 80's Italian Doom Metal masters RUN AFTER TO. With the strange name came some strange songs as well. These old dusty recordings are literally impossible to find except for a low quality upload on YouTube. Fans of old 80’s Doom Metal like Paul Chain Violet Theatre, Black Hole, Death SS will absolutely love this package. We have all of their songs re-mastered and put together on 1 CD along with some amazing band photos and a complete biography on the band. If you were not well versed on Italian Doom Metal, then fans of Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Candlemass, and Trouble would be interested in getting this gem. This is one of those bands that had too short of a career. They only put out an EP in 1988 and a demo tape in 1985.  There's some confusion about the history of the song "Occultism".  That was originally a Run After To song.  Paul Chain heard the song, loved it and re-recorded it and made his own version of it.  So technically Paul Chain Violet Theatre has a Run After To cover.

DMF Malta Diary, Final Episode: Landed in good cold Germany!!!

Hi Doom mates,

we have just right now landed savely at airport Frankfurt, remembering the great time on Malta, which will never be forgotten, especially the hospitable and friendly people we have met at the most southern Doom event of Europe - the great MALTA DOOM METAL FESTIVAL.

Our last day on the isle was nothing but awesome as Dino, the percussionist of VICTIMS OF CREATION, took us on a ride with his car to his personal favourite places like the Dingli Cliffs not far away from the Buskett Roadhouse, which was the venue of the festival or the Golden Beach. This whole trip was worth every second. The MALTA DOOM METAL FESTIVAL festival and every single corner of Malta is our tip when you are into great music and like to get to know wonderful regions and people. Further special thanks and Doom hails go to Albert, Glen & Rex - see you there or anywhere very soon hopefully!

DMF Malta Diary, Episode 4: MALTA DOOM METAL FESTIVAL has ended with a blast!!!

What took off from the MUDDY WATERS bar in St. Julians on Thursday has ended yesterday night with a major Doom blast - the 5th edition of the legendary MALTA DOOM METAL FESTIVAL. We pretty much enjoyed the two days at Buskett Road House in Rabat, which is a wonderful venue in a beautiful surrounding. The bands were nothing but awesome and everybody so warm and fully hospitable. We say thank you to Albert & Glen, the MDM organizers, and are happy still to be here on Malta.  But, we already know that we will come back to the Maltese warriors of Doom Metal!

DMF Malta Diary, Episode 3: Knights, ships & cave explorer

Hello Doom-mates,

this is day four of the DMF trip to Malta around the MDM festival. We have explored the beautiful capital city of Malta - Valletta, which is built up on a history, going back to a time, when the Sovereign Order of Malta settled here - a papal order of the Roman Catholic Church. One of the stunning, monumental symbols of it is the St. Johns Co-Cathedral, where you can find many graves of knights, accessoires of the Grand Masters of Malta and many more historical testimonies like paintings of the famous Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.

Also the immanent influence of the British Empire is to be seen anywhere, espcially throughout the Grand Harbour of Malta.

After this historical trip the time had come for a ride on a boat to the "Blue Grotto", which is a natural cave in the southern cliffs of the isle, serving clear blue shining water and amazing rocks in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

We are heading off to the MDM festival's Warm-Up Party tonight. We've already seen Wilbur of Doom Metal legends COUNT RAVEN right before our hotel. We pretty much looking forward to tonight and what's gonna happen the next days.

DMF Malta Diary, Episode 2: Arrived & tired, but happy to be here!!!

We have finally arrived after two days without sleep. But the weather is great here in Malta, about 25 degree celsius and sun, which is great! We already have checked in the hotel, been on a walk to explore the city of Sliema, which was much better than the crazy bus drive from the Malta International Airport. We have survived even this after the turbulent flight. The Lebanese food is great here on Malta, our tip! Then sat at the rugged beach and listened to nothing but the waves of the Mediterranean Sea, and to the sound of a Maltese Cisk beer, running down the throat. Good night! Sven & Florian

MÜHR: Serving just one song on the "Messiah" full-length album, which is a subsonic thunder

Amsterdam's MÜHR released their first output, the „Shepherd/Blood“ EP, which was recorded by Menno Bakker and Jevin de Groot, in the winter of 2010, The vinyl-only consists of 2 tracks, each covering a side.

MELVINS: "Tres Cabrones" to be released through Ipepac Recordings on the 4th of November 2013, featuring the band line-up of 1983

The Melvins are set to release Tres Cabrones, a 12-song release that finds Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover reuniting with original drummer Mike Dillard, on Nov. 4 in the UK/EU via Ipecac Recordings.

"Tres Cabrones is as close as we’re willing to get to the Melvins 1983 line-up,” explained Osborne. “The best part is it’s all new songs. I specifically wrote tunes that would be good for these guys to play and it worked out great. We had no interest in rehashing tunes we wrote 30 years ago and chose instead to simply create NEW songs. It worked out perfectly.”

“Making the Tres Cabrones record was a real treat indeed. It’s a trip down memory lane complete with debauchery and ultra violence, ” said Dillard, who left the band in 1984 only to be replaced by Crover.

“After 30 years we release a record with the (almost) original line-up of the band,” added Crover. “I’ve always felt that drummer Mike Dillard was one of us. It’s great that he’s still a piece of the puzzle! Plus, I get to see what it’s like being the bass player in the Melvins! Tres Cabrones indeed!”



The Melvins annexed Big Business band members Coady Willis and Jared Warren in 2006 for (A) Senile Animal and the quartet has remained in this incarnation for four additional releases including Everybody Loves Sausages, a covers album released this spring. Not ones to relax, the Melvins introduced Melvins Lite, a version of the band that teams Osborne and Crover with Trevor Dunn (Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle). Melvins Lite released their debut album, Freak Puke, in 2012 and subsequently embarked on a 51 date/51 State (including DC) tour of the United States.

The Melvins are currently in the midst of their 30th Anniversary Tour in their ongoing four-piece iteration (father-to-be Jared Warren is on paternity leave with Butthole Surfers’ bass player Jeff Pinkus filling in).

Titled "Last City Zero", the eight-track, near 50-minute offering was produced by Sanford Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu's Lair, and delivers a wholly cerebral, impossible-to-pinpoint kaleidoscopic synthesis of mechanical decomposition, atmospheric abnormalities, and poetic putrefaction.

A mysterious cooperative of lost souls, forged unwittingly by the impetuous forces of nature and altered states of consciousness, CORRECTIONS HOUSE is without control of their destiny. Boundless in their genre voyage, CORRECTIONS HOUSE embrace the unkind, the diseased, the forgotten, the morose, their lush anti-soundscrapes and shadowy verses -- at once beautifully hideous, graceful and terrifying -- a manifestation of societal ruin and psychological decay.

PELICAN announce first new album in four years - "Forever Becoming" due this October

PELICAN, the Chicago-based quartet whose instrumental excursions to the confluence of caustic heaviness and cathartic melody pioneered a subgenre, have announced their first full album in four years, Forever Becoming, due October 15th on forward-thinking metal imprint Southern Lord. Recorded at Electrical Audio with Chris Common (who engineered the group’s last album as well as albums by Chelsea Wolfe and These Arms Are Snakes), Forever Becoming is an immense, speaker-rattling meditation on the acceptance of mortality and its place in the eternal cycle. Composed of eight songs (full tracklist below), the album boasts a sonic palette that veers from pummeling metal, to contemplative ambience, to melodic catharsis all with landmark grace.



Following a hiatus that saw the departure of founding guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec and the arrival of new second guitarist Dallas Thomas (also of The Swan King), the forthcoming album is the work of a wholly revitalized unit, sounding more focused and assured than ever. The current lineup’s undeniable chemistry was forged in front of crowds at festival appearances, including Bonnaroo, Roadburn, and Maryland Death Fest, as well as a handful of headlining club shows. Pelican return to the road in support of the new album with a host of European dates kicking off this week.  Then this Autumn they shall continue their touring activities with reigning post-hardcore stalwarts Coliseum, focusing on the East Coast (the band’s first tour of the area since 2009), in addition to a coveted slot at this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest.

MANTHRA DEI: 70s-based Progressive/Psychedelic Rock from Italy out on Acid Cosmonaut Records

More than a band, MANTHRA DEI are a bunch of friends in love with lysergic deserts and forged by nights spent listening cassettes of teenage idols. Spontaneous, raw and mind-tripped tunes get pierced together by their bipolar personalities and become straight as headbanging on a kick-ass riff.

Michele, Paolo and Brano started back in 2009 as an instrumental power-trio that brought them to self-produce an EP with two log trips for almost 40 minutes of improvisations. Soon after, Maestro Paolo T. (yes, a real Maestro) joined them to start a long list of live-shows with Karma to Burn, Yawning Man, Vibravoid among many others up to a memorable Pietrasonica Festival in 2011.

After that the band decided to fix their jams into an album and consequently to get closed in a rehearsal room for almost two years … at least up to 2013, when Nasoni Rec – Colour Haze, Machine, Siena Root anyone? – decided to cast on vinyl their recordings. CD edition was taken in charge by a young Italian label, Acid Cosmonauts, that spread the world with a limited edition of 300 copies of their first full-length.

BITE THE BULLET: "Be Like You" video premiere to promote the debut album of the Danish Heavy Rockers

Danish best hardrockin' trio BITE THE BULLET celebrate the release of their debut "Bite the bullet" with the premiere of the musicvideo to the song "Be like you".



The album is available as a high-qualitly, handnumbered edition in 3 different versions at Kozmik Artifactz' webshop.

The foundation stone for Bite The Bullet was laid for 15 years ago, when Paw and Christian met each other in a worn out youth club in Vejle. The two played together after following in a number of bands, at the same time as they individually played and guest performed a gem variety of Danish bands, including Coolsville, Cody, Magtens Korrido-rer, Jonas Breum, Hellraiser Ten and Thee Attacks.

When the boys last band, Highway Child, stopped in 2011, they de-cided to cut into the leg, bite it in themselves and start a band, just the two of them.

The result is Bite The Bullet: Pure, unadulterated, bluesy rock music with the heart in the right place. A lesson in playing pleasure, fuzzy and pure love for the music.

ISAAK: Small Stone Recordings' Stonerrock protegees announce European Tour after they've been robbed

"A month ago we've been robbed of most of our gears in our rehearsal room. Amps and cabs, instruments, computer etc... In that particular period we were busy in pre-production recordings for our new album and we were also preparing for our new tour. After some very bad days, our reaction is now very strong. We just don't wanna fall apart. So a couple of weeks ago we organized a 30-days fund raising via Kapipal (see link below). People can support us giving us the chance to buy again our gears, and they can receive exclusive issues too. In fact in these days we're recording a brand new single at Green Fog Studio, thanks to Mattia Cominotto (who brilliantly recorded also all our previous issues since we were Gandhi's Gunn) that will be released via fund raising in a limited edition tape cassette version and in mp3 format. You can also find an exclusive poster, t-shirt and the very rare white LP vinyl “The Longer The Beard The Harder The Sound” by Gandhi's Gunn released in 2012 by Taxi Driver Records. Those last copies are now available thanks to the label, which gave them to us for found raising.

‘Wood & Wire’ brings together Oxford's monolithic UNDERSMILE and their acoustic alter-ego COMA WALL on one release

Although this is COMA WALL's debut release, they’ve already gained fans after playing sets at Desertfest 2012 and supporting Dylan Carlson (of Earth) on his first ever solo show. This recording sees the band laid bare – no amps, no fuzz boxes, just acoustic guitars, percussion and a banjo that showcases their own brand of Dark Americana and Doom-Folk in the spirit of the MTV Unplugged sessions.

On the other hand UNDERSMILE, having been endorsed by the likes of Earth's Dylan Carlson and Henry Rollins of Black Flag, are both engaging and crushing, blending numerous influences from Swans to Babes in Toyland to arrive at a genuinely fresh, cohesive, and brutal sound. Their debut album 'Narwhal', released last year by Future Noise Recordings, was met with huge praise from both fans and press alike. For these tracks, the band enlisted the help of Justin Greaves (Iron Monkey, Electric Wizard, Crippled Black Phoenix) to oversee the engineering and his contribution to the recording process helped to further display Undersmile’s diversity and musical growth, as well as their desire to capture a warmer, more ‘live’ sound.



Mastering for both recordings was once again handled by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Melvins) and the amazing artwork was handled by up and coming Illustrator Craig Bryant.

ROADKILL FOR DINNER: Groovender Southern Style "Redneck-Rock" aus Oberhausen/Duisburg

Viel Zeit, Anstrengung und Bier hat es gebraucht, bis das erste Machwerk von ROADKILL FOR DINNER endlich ins Presswerk kam. Was sich musikalisch zuvor noch kreuz und quer durch alle Genres mischte, bekam mit der Rückkehr von Sänger und Gründungsmitglied Tobi endlich eine Marschrichtung: "Grooven musset, und rocken!"


Dank fähigem Tontechniker in der Band wurde das vorliegende Demo komplett im eigenen Proberaum aufgenommen und produziert. Das Artwork stammt von einem befreundeten Fotografen. Bis auf diese eine Ausnahme ist das gesamte Werk in mühseliger Kleinarbeit in Eigenregie entstanden, worauf die fünf Musiker aus Oberhausen und Duisburg, die Ihre Musik selbst als "Redneck-Rock" bezeichnen, mächtig stolz sind. Die Songs handeln von Rock'n'Roll und was der im eigenen Leben alles anrichten kann – keine Fiktionen, sondern allesamt Vergangenheitsbewältigung. Musikalisch umfasst die Scheibe die gesamte Bandbreite, von groovendem Riffing bis hin zu ruhigen Melodien.

Im Juli 2013 wurde die EP "Roadkill for Dinner" fertiggestellt. Hier ist die Tracklist:

RED FANG: Announcing European tour for 2014 to promote "Whales and Leeches", which will be released on October 18th

RED FANG have announced an extensive run of European tour dates in support of their forthcoming album Whales and Leeches. The Portland, Oregon band will head to Europe in February and March 2014 in a tour spread across two legs. A full list of dates is below. Support on both sections of the tour will come from label mates and fellow riff-merchants, LORD DYING.

Whales and Leeches was recorded with producer Chris Funk (Decemberists) and mixed by Vance Powell (White Stripes, Raconteurs, Kings of Leon) - the same creative forces behind RED FANG’s Murder The Mountains album, which was released in 2011. This time around, RED FANG have enlisted the help of guests Mike Scheidt (Yob) and Pall Jenkins (The Black Heart Procession), helping to propel the album.

Whales and Leeches will be released on October 18 in Benelux/GAS/Finland and on October 21 in the UK and rest of Europe; physical copies are currently available to pre-order from the Relapse store here, and to obtain an exclusive track, digital pre-orders are available via iTunes here.
